This week we have had a lot to cover with the soul.
We started on Thursday by looking at our sojourning soul and how we should treat others in their own journeys in life. God calls us to remember what it is like to be a foreigner. We need to understand how he expects us to show compassion towards others.
We then looked at the atonement Jesus made for our souls. He not only serves as our High Priest; he is our supreme sacrifice. No other sacrifice is needed. He is enough. He is a better sacrifice. We are covered by the Lamb of God.
We went on to look at the bonding we do with our souls and how God looks at this bonding. It is important to keep our words when they are bound by commitment to our very souls. If we bond it with our soul, we must do everything in our power to keep those words we spoke.
Then it was a rest day. We looked at David's psalm "Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest." This is a precious wish of David's, and I have prayed this many times. The great thing is God will send us rest when we need it most. Trust him.
We started the new week on Monday by looking at keeping our souls. It is important to keep our souls in God's laws and train our children and grandchildren. This is a solemn reminder what we do does matter. It matters to God; it impacts our families.
We kept going and looked at what it meant to love God with all our souls. This is a very multi-faceted commandment. What does it truly mean to love God with all our souls? This question is one we need to search and answer.
We concluded our session with a look on Wednesday at serving God with our souls. Again, this requires depth in our searching. What does it mean to serve God with all our soul? God wants all of us doing all his will for all our lives.
In conclusion we paid respect to the great song writer and missionary, Horatio G. Spafford from D. L. Moody's church who lost a total of 6 children in his life, and 4 of those were lost on a voyage to England to rest after losing their home in the Great Chicago fire and their brother to scarlet fever. Four precious girls were lost at sea. Their mother sent a two word message to the already grieving Horatio - Saved Alone. Horatio and his wife had three more children later, and their only son of this three also died. Horatio and his wife moved to Jerusalem to serve the Jewish people and show them the love of Christ. There they both eventually died, but not before living out their anthem: IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL~! (I so love this song!)
